Is it possible to connect an external GPS with heading (NMEA) to the IO pins and use it in stead of the internal GPS and IMU?

Currently it is not supported directly on the IO pins, you will have to connect it to a computer (or Raspberry Pi) and use our Python script to send it over HTTP: https://github.com/waterlinked/examples/blob/master/nmeainput.py.

This is a great idea and we would like to support this in the future.
Any thoughts on what kind of connector would be convenient for connecting an external GPS to the Underwater GPS?

I would use one of the spare Binder connectors on the box and connect it internally to the IO pins. The communication would then be serial NMEA0183

Thanks for the feedback! As mentioned you have to use a computer right now to send the position over HTTP, but this is something we would like to support.
