Our disruptive approach defines us—we don’t just adapt to challenges, we reinvent the solutions. And it works.

Water Linked is a growing company that continues to expand its reach and capabilities. Our ambitious plans for the future include scaling our team to tackle even more exciting challenges in underwater technology.

Let us describe the challenge

The key challenge in this role is balancing hands-on technical expertise with strong customer-facing skills; installing and operating Water Linked products in a mixture of environments while also feeding valuable insights back to the Research & Development and Sales & Marketing teams. In this role you must adapt quickly to varying conditions, troubleshoot in real-time, and effectively communicate both with customers and internal teams to ensure continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

What you'll do

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Field Application Engineer to support the integration, deployment, and operation of Water Linked’s advanced subsea sensor systems, primarily designed for ROVs and AUVs.

In this customer-facing role, you will play a key part in ensuring successful testing, installation and performance of our sensors in offshore and marine environments.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Integrate Water Linked sensors onto ROVs, AUVs, and other marine platforms, ensuring compatibility with the system the sensor is integrated with
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to sensor performance, communication protocols, and potential interference caused by the system onto which the sensor is integrated
  • Deliver online integration support and hands-on training to customers on the installation, operation, and maintenance of Water Linked sensors
  • Conduct demonstrations of sensor functionality, either as standalone units or integrated with compatible underwater vehicles
  • Supporting the Sale and Marketing team in gathering data and demonstrating products capabilities to potential customers
  • Maintain all equipment required to carry out your role as a Field Application Engineer
  • Create and update system documentation such as integration guides, wiring diagrams, and best practice checklists

Who you are

The ideal candidate has a solid background in marine technology, a strong understanding of subsea systems, and excels at diagnosing and resolving integration challenges while working directly with clients; whether on-site at their facility or in the field.

As a person and professional, you see the benefit of being bold, collaborative and reliable, and you embody these values the same way as we do on a company level. You are a team player who enjoys working in groups, both across departments and among your department colleagues. As a team player you always want to learn new things and give back by sharing knowledge and exciting discoveries with your colleagues.

Required Qualifications

  • Vocational education or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Robotics Engineering
  • Experience working with underwater equipment used in the underwater/offshore industry

Essential Requirements

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Familiarity with subsea communication protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Valid driving licence
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including to offshore sites
  • Comfortable working independently in remote or harsh environments
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when interfacing with clients
  • Regular physical activity and mobility in a field-based environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with ROVs, AUVs, and other underwater vehicles
  • General capability in Python software coding
  • Experience with sensor integration, calibration and diagnostics
  • Knowledge of acoustic systems, inertial navigation, DVLs, sonar, etc
  • Hands-on experience with field testing, FAT/SAT procedures, or sea trials

Don't meet every single requirement?

That's okay! In our culture of innovation and collaboration, being motivated, goal-oriented and/or having a strong soft-skillset are all factors that weigh in your favour. So don't let this be a box-ticking exercise. If you are excited about the role, we'd love to hear from you!

Application deadline: 10.08.2025

What we offer

Yes, we offer a competitive package and we could have made that bullet-list of what most employers offer, however we want to show you what we think is quite unique with Water Linked:

We firmly believe that true innovation and exceptional problem-solving stem from being great at a deep discipline and possessing knowledge across various areas of expertise. That's why we have created our very own Water Linked Academy for employees career development, designed to foster well-rounded skill development and encourage interdisciplinary understanding.

With us, you will be expected to take part in our journey - not just to tag along. It is therefore only natural that you are offered ownership through stock options, which is a risk-free way to take part in the company's financial growth.

Your primary workplace will be located at Nyhavna in Trondheim, with travel as required. We offer flexible working hours, with an estimated travel time of 90 days per year.
